Find public profiles: choose the right lookup method

A platform lookup needs a method that fits the service. GitHub exposes a public user-search syntax. Instagram often limits signed-out access. Discord uses usernames, display names and IDs within its client and has no direct MyRecon check. Start with the guide for that workflow.

Other platforms: begin at the original service

If there is no detailed guide here, use the service's official search or an account link published by the owner. Search the exact handle first. A display name can return unrelated accounts, and search-engine results can remain after a rename. Do not guess undocumented URL patterns and interpret their HTTP status as a profile. A login page or challenge is an access limitation. An account type such as shop, organization or forum member may need a different interpretation from a personal profile.

Use a public sweep as a candidate list

MyRecon's standard catalogue covers 500+ platforms, with guest previews and signed-in account allowances. Paid Extended scans have a separate catalogue. A catalogue entry does not guarantee a reliable response on every run. Open each found URL and keep unknown outcomes separate from not found. A username seen on another site does not prove common ownership, and not found does not establish registration availability.

Worked example: the same handle on two services

Illustrative case: your saved signup email confirms an old forum account under example_handle, while an unrelated photo profile uses the same handle. The forum is a confirmed self-audit entry. The photo account remains unresolved. Retain the original URLs and the basis for each conclusion, then act only on the account you control. Avoid recovery probes or messages to the unrelated candidate.

A stopping rule saves unnecessary collection

Stop when the required account has been confirmed or when no authorized source can answer the question. Write down an unavailable source rather than filling the gap with a guessed link. For account security, a saved login and official recovery process can matter more than a public scan. For a public association, an owner-published website link can be more useful than dozens of same-name results.
